I go to church on a part time basis...mostly because I work 3rd shift and Saturday night is my first "real" night of sleep in 3-4 days, but I do get up occasionally and I do instill my beliefs in my girls. My girls, on the other hand, are brought to Sunday school every week and they go to AWANA every week, so they are learning A LOT! It makes me feel even better that they like learning about God/Jesus/Church.
On a recent Sunday, we walked into church early (a MAJOR feat for me) and we were putting on our name tags and Abby said "I sure wish God and Jesus would come to church with us some day." I replied that they always come to church with us but we don't see them...and she was fine with that, except she said "maybe we could see them if they hadn't died!" She dropped it after that and so did I.
THEN...Abby got her kindergarten shots on the following Monday. We don't lie to them when they get shots because we feel that they need to know that they ARE going to get shots and WHY they get shots. The "why" is because shots keep us healthy and help us not get "as" sick. Hannah and Abby are determined it's so they don't die, but I just let that go. So after shots and the tears are done for Abby, she tells me "I sure wish God and Jesus had gotted their shots cuz then they won't have died. I think when Jesus comes back for his birthday party at Christmas day, I'm going to tell him to get his shots and it won't hurt too bad and he'll get to pick something out of the prize bucket...and best of ALL...THEN he could come to church with us!"
How can you NOT totally appreciate that innocence???
